In a moss draped rainforest in British Columbia, towering red cedars live a thousand years, and black bears are born with white fur, it is not an albino bear, but a rare subspecies of the black bear. A double recessive gene gives it a white or cream coloured coat like a polar bear. The Kermode Bear resides in the Great Bear Rainforest and is the official provincial mammal of British Columbia.
